# CRM Integration Guide

The basic steps for connecting NationGraph with HubSpot or Salesforce.

Connect NationGraph to HubSpot or Salesforce once, then use the connection to keep CRM data clean and give your team CRM context inside NationGraph.

{% hint style="info" %}
You need to be an admin in NationGraph and in HubSpot or Salesforce.
{% endhint %}

## Read the full guide

The PDF covers setup, what the connection unlocks, data-hygiene rules, Compass workflows, and the rollout checklist.

## Set up the connection

1. **Have both admin roles.** You need to be an admin in NationGraph and in HubSpot or Salesforce.
2. **Install the Salesforce package, if needed.** Salesforce users must install the NationGraph package first so the connection works for all users. Skip this step for HubSpot.
3. **Connect, then map.** Connect from **Integrations**. Under **Advanced**, scope the import with a custom field such as NCES, IPEDS, or your own SLED tag. If you do not have one, import all accounts.
4. **Map one required field.** Choose at least one identifier: name, NCES, IPEDS, NationGraph ID, or FIPS.
5. **Add optional secondary fields.** State, domain or URL, and city can improve the match.
6. **Clear duplicates and save.** Resolve any duplicates, then save the mappings to complete the connection.

{% hint style="warning" %}
If you map using name alone, raise the confidence score threshold to **80% or higher**.
{% endhint %}

## What the connection unlocks

Once the connection is live, NationGraph can:

* show whether an institution is a customer, prospect, or deal in progress;
* show the CRM account owner on the account;
* push verified contacts without duplicating contacts that already exist;
* add net-new institutions without duplicating existing institutions;
* add notes and tasks without overwriting rep-edited records; and
* let Compass push lists to the CRM or pull CRM context into NationGraph.

## Before you roll out

Confirm the items from the guide that apply to your connection:

* CRM admin and NationGraph admin access
* Salesforce package installed
* Mandatory identifier field chosen
* Confidence score above 80% if mapping on name
* Duplicates cleared before saving mappings
* Sharing rules reviewed for pushed records
* Opportunity stages mapped to **in pipeline**
* Per-user credit limits set for bulk contact pulls

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://nationgraph.gitbook.io/nationgraph/help-center/readme/integration-overview/crm-integrations/crm-integration-guide.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
