# Accounts

Use Account View to define territory, receive Signals, and research institutions in one place.

Use **Accounts** to define the institutions NationGraph should monitor.

It is the starting point for Signals, account research, and outreach.

### What the Account View is

**Accounts** shows all accounts associated with your territories in one place.

Your account and territory selection tells NationGraph which institutions to monitor.

When an account is linked to Salesforce or HubSpot, NationGraph can also show its CRM owner and relationship status:

* **Customer** when it matches your configured customer criteria
* **Deal in Progress** when it is not a customer and has an open CRM deal or opportunity
* **Prospect** when it is linked but has neither customer status nor an open deal

Unlinked accounts are not labeled as prospects. These labels also appear across supported research and automation results.

### Build your territory by filters

Use filters when you want NationGraph to build the territory for you.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

#### Choose institution types

Select one institution type or combine several.

Supported types include **states**, **state agencies**, **counties**, **cities**, **police agencies**, **fire departments**, **special districts**, **K-12 school districts**, and **higher ed**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Select the states you cover

Filter by state to narrow the territory.

For example, you might target **Alabama**, **Alaska**, and **Arizona**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Add a size filter

Use size when you need a tighter account set.

For example, target institutions with more than **1,000 students**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Click **Confirm selection**

This selection directly drives your Signals.

A territory like **K-12 schools**, **three states**, and **1K+ students** becomes the account set NationGraph monitors.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

After accounts load, you can keep narrowing by filters like location and account type.

{% hint style="warning" %}
If you built signal templates but are not receiving signals, you most likely have not set up a territory.

NationGraph needs to know which institutions to run signals across.
{% endhint %}

After your territory is ready, continue with [Signals Setup](/nationgraph/help-center/readme/signals-overview/signals-setup.md).

### Upload a CSV for a defined book of business

Use **Upload CSV** when you own a narrow account list.

This is common for AEs and SDRs with a fixed book of business.

In the CSV flow, map by one of the **five metadata fields**, select coverage, run the search, and populate the account set.

For the full mapping flow, use [Map accounts from CSV or CRM](/nationgraph/help-center/readme/workspaces/map-accounts-from-csv-or-crm.md).

If you need separate books by team or region, see [Workspaces](/nationgraph/help-center/readme/workspaces.md).

### The account summary

Once signals load, click into an account with signals.

NationGraph generates an AI summary of the account and the activity around it.

That summary can include:

* signals
* RFPs
* contacts
* grants
* FOIA and purchase-order data
* press releases and recent activity

NationGraph also reads your [company document](/nationgraph/help-center/readme/onboarding/set-your-business-context-company-document.md) for context.

For example, if a school receives **$1.4M** in grant funding to hire up to **42 firefighters**, NationGraph can connect that event to an **EMS** or fire solution.

{% hint style="info" %}
FOIA and purchase-order data in the account summary is reference context.

It is display data for research and outreach.
{% endhint %}

### Go deeper and act

From the account view, you can move from summary to action.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

#### Open the related records

Drill into all associated **signals**, previous and active **RFPs**, and **contacts**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Choose the right contact

Open a specific contact, such as a deputy director, when you are ready to tailor outreach.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

#### Click **Generate email**

NationGraph combines the institution context with your company context and drafts an email that is ready to send.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

### Review CRM interactions

For an account linked to Salesforce or HubSpot, open **Interactions** to review CRM notes, logged emails, and tasks without leaving NationGraph. Activity appears newest first, and longer items can be expanded in place.

If your organization uses both CRMs, select the CRM you want to read from. HubSpot email visibility depends on the permissions granted to the integration.

CRM activity is read from the linked record and does not modify it. See [CRM Integrations](/nationgraph/help-center/readme/integration-overview/crm-integrations.md) to configure customer identification and learn how CRM status works.

When you need to compare many accounts, ask Compass to guide you through [Deep Research](/nationgraph/help-center/readme/compass/deep-research.md). It will help you decide what to research and return the answers in a table. You can also use [Ranked Institutions](/nationgraph/help-center/readme/automations-overview/ranked-automations.md) to prioritize accounts and [Workspace Summary](/nationgraph/help-center/readme/workspaces/workspace-summary.md) to prepare for calls.

### Summary

Account View does two jobs.

First, it sets up the accounts and territory required for Signals.

Then, it augments your data so you can research accounts in more detail and send more accurate outreach.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://nationgraph.gitbook.io/nationgraph/help-center/readme/accounts.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
